Grade 5 Fine Thread ZincAs the name implies, a Grade 5 Fine Thread Zinc is a hex cap screw made of medium carbon steel quenched and tempered with a hex head. It comes with fine threads and is coated in zinc. Being a hex cap screw, this comes with a hexagonal head with a washer face under it that provides enough bearing surface in the tightening process with a wrench. As a threaded fastener, this is used to put two things together. It is also designed for insertion on pre-tapped holes or for use with a nut. The hex cap screw is a common threaded fastener for manufacturing companies,- residential, commercial and industrial projects. Aside from having three radial lines on its hexagonal head, other properties of a fine thread Grade 5 hex cap screw include:
Nominal Size Range: 1/4 inch through 1 inch
Nominal Size Range: over 1 inch to 1-1/2 inches Fine-threaded screws are strong in both tension and shear because they have a slightly higher tensile stress area and a minor diameter. Due to their having a smaller helix angle than a course-threaded screw, they have lesser tendencies of loosening under vibration. Fine threads can also be easily tapped into more difficult tap materials and thin-walled areas. Also, they do not require much tightening torque compared to their course thread counterparts. Its zinc coating is a very economical yet effective way of protecting the steel against damage due to corrosion. Also, zinc coating renders the steel stronger and more durable, aside from making it more aesthetically appealing and resistant to corrosion without the expensive cost. For this reason, zinc coating is a preferred method for steel used in several manufacturing, commercial and residential applications.
